I worked as a UX/ UI Designer to revamp the program journey of a clinical care app in collaboration with different stakeholders (Clinicians, Developers, Technical support team members).

The app is designed to assist patients with Mild Cognitive Impairment, ensuring an evidence-based and user-friendly experience.

Background

As the UX Researcher and Designer, I worked on the design for the MVP patient-centric iPad app which was launched in a clinical trial in Singapore, this app offered a holistic clinical program featuring four tailored therapies—Educational modules, Wellness videos, Cognitive Games, and Reminiscence Therapy.

I was assigned a project by the SVP of Clinical Strategy - to reimagine and redesign the app's program journey to make it even more user-friendly and engaging for the older patients facing challenges with Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI).

Acting as both the UI and UX Designer, I spearheaded the entire redesign process, optimizing not just the visual elements but also the overall user experience which was then launched as v2 of the app. 🌟📱

Sneak Peak into the Design Strategy Process

In a cross-functional endeavor, I joined hands with the Clinical Team to define both the content and the user journey for the program experience.

Our collective aim was to create a pathway that is intuitive, enriching, and clinically effective for our patient demographic.

We also proposed the implementation of a Mascot (Inspired by the studies conducted in Japan) that would guide our patient population in the program journey on the platform and create an emotional personal connection.

Mascot Strategy

The objective of implementing the mascot design was:

To Strengthen the brand identity and enhance product engagement.

Inspired by the concept of care robots in Japan, the mascot was designed to guide patients through their program journey with kindness and encouragement.

The Mascot is more than just a cute character - it has been carefully crafted to assist patients in various ways.

  • It will help patients onboard successfully and guide them through their journey to complete their program activities.

  • It will educate them on various concepts, nudge them whenever necessary.

  • It shall provide error messages, and help them navigate the interface effectively.

Moreover, the design is intentionally gender-neutral so that all patients can feel comfortable interacting with it.

Bringing it all together

  • Program Visualization

A minimalistic garden visualization for the interface with a mascot to make the app more engaging and easy to use.

  • Onboarding Walkthrough

An onboarding walkthrough to help patients understand their program and its objectives.

  • Harmonizing Health

A circular interface design to show how the three activities are interconnected in a holistic way.

  • Animations for engagement

We added animations in the UI elements such as the ‘Arrow” and ‘Mascot’ animations to enhance engagement and connection.

  • Revamping the Learn Activity

A new user flow for the Learn Activity with the introduction of a healthy activity challenge and a new quiz design.

  • Revamping the Learn Activity

A simplified interface for engaging conversations and helpful tips during the quiz section.

  • Activities for Cognitive Health

The Mascot provides patients with guidance and educational messages about the program activities for their cognitive health.

  • The Mascot's Celebratory Feedback

The Mascot cheers whenever patients finish an activity in their cognitive health program, enhancing emotional design.

  • Navigating with the Mascot

The Mascot shares helpful advice and other details to assist patients in navigating their cognitive health program.

  • Mock Virtual Care Appointments

The Mascot prompts patients to try a mock virtual care session before their actual appointment with the care team.

  • Introducing: Gratitude Feature

Patients have the opportunity to engage in a one-minute gratitude exercise showcased in this design.

  • Journey Forward with the Mascot

After completing the program, patients transition to the lifestyle mode, granting them access to all program content.
